Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris from Perak topped the medals table, grabbing five gold, one silver and one bronze, while Universiti Sains Malaysia were second with 4-9-1 and Universiti Putra Malaysia third with 3-2-1.

All the four events contested in the Under-12 category -- two events each for the boys and girls -- ended up with new marks.

In the boys' 4x50m, SK Petani Jaya clocked 28 seconds while SJK (C) Peng Bin and SK MInden were timed at 29.4s and 29.5s respectively. All three bettered the old record of 30.2s set by SJK (C) Peng Bin.

SK Petani Jaya, from Sungai Petani, were in the limelight when their duo ran the 2x100m race in a record time of 27.3s while SJK (C) Kwang Ho also came in within the old mark, clocking 28.1s. The old record of 28.6s was held by SK Batu Maung.

In the Men's Open, Penang's Serantau Striders scored a double when their quartet smashed the 4x200m and the medley record, but missed the 4x800m record by 0.2 seconds.

In the 4x200m relay, the Serantau Striders were timed at one minute 30.6s while Universiti Putra Malaysia, who finished second, clocked 1:30.9s. Both sides bettered the record of 1:31.3s, held by Penang State Sports Council athletes while third placed Royal Malaysian Police A equalled the record with 1:31.3s.

In the medley race, where the first two runners ran 200m each, the third runner 400m and the fourth 800m, Serantau Striders stopped the clock at 3:32.6s while Universiti Putra Malaysia clocked 3:41.1s, finishing first and second respectively to erase the old record of 3:41.2 held by PCOTD.

Hosts USM were the other organisation that recorded two new marks -- in the Institution of Higher Learning Men's 4x800m. USM clocked 9:01.3s and UPSI posted 9:07.0s. The old record was 9:30.3s set by USM A.

In the Girls' Under-19 4x800m, USM Juniors smashed their own record by posting 11:03.6s to finish first while second placed MSS Terengganu clocked 11:06.7s. The previous record was 14:48.9s.
